Aceh’s Disability Tax Relief: Keeps People Moving
The motor vehicle tax relief scheme for people with disabilities in Aceh marks an important milestone towards more inclusive and socially just development. Through Aceh Governor’s Regulation No. 34 of 2024, the government is offering tax reductions of up to 50% and the waiver of fines, helping thousands of residents such as Muhajir, Dedy and Saifudin to remain productive and independent. This policy stems from a collaboration between the Aceh Government, the Aceh Provincial Audit Board (BPKA), the Traffic Police Directorate (Dirlantas), Jasa Raharja, and disability organisations, with support from the SKALA programme, the Australia-Indonesia Partnership for Accelerating Basic Services. More than just a fiscal incentive, this policy strengthens the rights and participation of people with disabilities in socio-economic life, whilst serving as an inspiration for other regions to introduce public policies that are accessible, fair and inclusive for all.
