University Collaborations in Aceh Accelerate the Implementation of One Data

The Aceh Government is continuing to establish regulations, systems, procedures and human resource capacity for One Data Aceh. As part of these efforts, the government is working on interoperability between the One Data Aceh portal and the Ministry of Home Affairs’ One Data portal via PELITA, and collaborating with universities through student internship programs.

These collaborations have had a direct impact on increasing the number of published datasets. As of June 2026, a total of 4,005 datasets are available on the One Data Aceh portal, doubling the figure from January 2026, which stood at about 2,000 datasets.

Head of the Statistics Regional Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) at the Aceh Communication, Informatics and Cryptography Agency (Diskominsa), Sayid Azhary, said that university partnerships under the Impactful Campus (Kampus Berdampak) banner had made a tangible contribution to accelerating the implementation of One Data Aceh. Furthermore, the students’ presence had helped the Statistics UPTD to address human resource constraints where management of sectoral government statistical data was concerned.

“Among the students’ responsibilities during this internship program are identifying, standardising, cleaning, validating, migrating and disseminating data through the One Data Aceh portal,” Mr Azhary said.

The collaboration between the Aceh Government and universities began in 2024. It started with the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program, transforming into Kampus Berdampak implemented by the Diskominsa Aceh Statistics UPTD. As of June 2026, a total of 108 students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Syiah Kuala University and the Faculty of Informatics at Bina Bangsa Getsempena University, divided across five cohorts, had completed their internships.

In addition to supporting data dissemination on the One Data Aceh portal, the participating interns drafted articles, developed analytical dashboards, and created regional data visualisations.

For the students, this program has been a platform to practically apply the knowledge they have acquired during their university education. Conversely, for the Aceh Government, the collaboration has helped address human resource shortages while simultaneously accelerating the implementation of regional single data policies.

A student in the Statistics Study Program at FMIPA Syiah Kuala University and Head of the Statistics Students Association, Aditya Arrahman, acknowledged the benefit of gaining practical experience.

“This is a novel experience for me. Through this activity, I have come to understand that data involves a wide variety of types, formats and management methods. Being directly involved in the data migration process provided an invaluable learning-by-doing experience and has been one of the best educational opportunities during my university studies,” he said.

By the time the fifth cohort of students finished their internships in June, the migration process encompassed data originating from 48 Aceh Working Units (SKPA) and 46 data groups, alongside post-disaster needs (JITUPASNA) data that was previously published on the Open Data Aceh portal.

The pilot model for collaborative implementation of One Data Aceh receives technical support from SKALA (Sinergi dan Kolaborasi untuk Akselerasi Layanan Dasar), the Australia–Indonesia partnership program. In its implementation, SKALA also facilitated technical capacity-building activities for students to ensure they had the necessary understanding and skills to support the identification, standardisation, cleaning, validation, visualisation and publication of data on the One Data Aceh portal.
