Nurturing Hope for the Elderly through PAITUA

Amidst ongoing modernisation, elderly are often marginalised and perceived as a “burden”. Many continue to struggle independently, and some still bear the responsibility of supporting their families. Nevertheless, their resilience remains undiminished, as exemplified by Alex Vadan (68), a sago farmer from Papua Barat Daya, who continues to work diligently to meet his own needs. This inspiring story underscores the significance of PAITUA, the old-age protection program initiated by the Government of Papua Barat Daya Province and supported by the SKALA Program. PAITUA stands as proof that collaboration can empower elderly, challenge prevailing stigma, and help build a stronger community.
